Do you need insurance for a driver's permit?

-I'm hearing different things from all different places and rather than sifting through all of the crap at the dmvedu website I thought I'd ask you guys and get a straight answer.



Do I need insurance to get my permit, or just for my liscense? I live in California, by the way, if that makes any difference with the law.In my state you can't get in the car without proof of insurance. (Not Calif.)

in texas they will tow your vehicle if you don't have insurance. that law came out not so long ago.
