I made a mistake with the gas in my dad's car?!?!?

-Hello, I just got my license and yesterday i went for a ride, and i decided to put gas in the car. It was not empty but the thing of the gas was almost on the red line. I put in 5 gallons of regular instead of premium. I did not fill it up. Now my dad is mad at me and even told me that i'd would have to pay for the damages, after the gas is burned because he is going to take it to the AutoParts place to get the "problem" fixed?



is THERE really a Problem w/ the car? He told me that he'd have to do an tune up?Sounds like your dad doesn't really like you more than he likes his car. But, I guess you could already tell that.



Tell him to buy a bottle of octane booster and put it in. It will boost the octane of 5 gallons of gas FAR above the level of premium gasoline.



If he just gets mad and makes more threats and gets angry, he is just an idiot, and thank God you don't have to live with him forever.



People use anger and bluster to control others and intimidate them. I feel sorry for you. But, it isn't going to last forever.
For a start it will not damage for car as a once off. It just means it might feel a little less power. If it is recommended to run on premium. i.e it might run 200hp on premium if you put regular in it. Maybe 190hp in a lesser tune. The ECU computer knows what fuel your running and will adjust to it. In Japan all fuel is 100octane thats why you see cars exported will less power than their domestic cars. The had to detune them to suit lower grades of fuel available in other countries.
You're dad is probably mad about something else --- he obviously wants to hurt you, make you feel bad.



Maybe his goal is to "make it bad" --- SO --- he can "make it better."



Make you tear-up, cry---and say that you're sorry --- just so he can, put his arms around you --- and be the hero when he tells you, "It's alright --- I love you more than the stupid car."



Maybe that's it --- in some way on an emotional level he want's to get close to you. Maybe it's more than just an emotional level.
Nope, 5g. of regular gas isn't going to change anything, when he usually get premium. Get him to show/tell you what the problem is, but I bet there isn't,
I've been working on cars for over 40 years. You did not do any damage. All a tune up is these days is a set of spark plugs. You can get those at Walmart or any discount auto parts.
there would only be damage if you put diesel into a gas car. My mom mixes premium and regular all the time and her car is fine.
He is over reacting. Changing the gas once isn't going to do anything. But next time just leave it on premium
I don't think this is going to be a big problem , he's just angry for what you've done. Nothing to be worried about
